The drum Gender Diverse Holiday Program

Program Description

What can you expect?

In 2015 we piloted a Gender Diverse Holiday Program and the young folks loved it so much that we now deliver a Gender Diverse Holiday Program activity each school holiday.

All our activities are co-designed and co-delivered for young people who identify as trans or gender diverse. This means they decide what type of activities we do and they plan and deliver them. The program is also open to allies of trans and gender diverse young people.

Our activities offer an opportunity for positive and safe social connections, such as arts based activities or social outings and to connect with your peers. In the past we have worked in partnership with Minus 18 for program and activities like Laser Tag and craft days.

Is permission required?

Yes. Because we are taking you places we need a registration form completed prior to you coming along.

What is with this form and why do I have to complete it?

We totally get that for some people getting adult consent can be difficult – especially if getting ‘outed’ is a concern, along with many other reasons. If this is you, please get in touch (click here) and we can help sort a special consideration for you – we will just need a brief chat.

As a youth service, we have a legal requirement to gain official consent to hang out with you, and make sure you are safe, as well as record your attendance of our event. This basically means, if you are under 18, the law says we have to get permission from your parents or carers or if you do not have them in your life right now – ’a responsible ‘adult is for you to hang and have fun with us (so it doesn’t look like we are kidnapping you! lol).

the drum’s registration form should have all the dets you need, and also for your parent, guardian or carer.  The form outlines what the activities are, including ours and yours responsibilities. We also need emergency contact details, we usually don’t need them, but just in case we need to contact your parent, guardian or carer in case of an emergency. It is also useful to know – and if we don’t ask – we don’t know about any spiritual, health and wellbeing needs you may have.

If you are under 18 the registration form needs to be signed by your parent, carer or guardian to complete registration form.

If you are over 18 you can sign this for yourself but we’ll still need some emergency contact details.

We absolutely keep your information confidential and we respect your privacy.

For our holiday program the registration form needs to be provided before the program happens- so get organised!

Can we help you attend?

If you are new to Carlton & Parkville and you want (or you know someone) who might need some encouragement or support to attend give us a holla and one of the drum’s friendly team members can help this happen.
